A Day Out at Asnas Dam
I had the pleasure of visiting Asnas Dam today (on 15th August 2023) alongside my childhood friend Girish, whose shared enthusiasm for riding motorcycles brought us back together after many years. I personally rode the BMW 310 GS, while Girish opted for the KTM 390 Adventure; both bikes proved to be exceptional choices.
At first, we decided to refuel at Hotel Sagar, where we enjoyed a delightful breakfast consisting of Misal Pav and Batata Vada. Our culinary experience only added to the overall day. Then we started our journey to the dam via the Bhiwandi city route, and it was quite the adventure, with pothole-ridden roads providing a true ADV (adventure) experience. The last 3 kilometers leading to the dam required full off-roading capabilities, making it less advisable for those with pillion passengers.
Continuing on our path, we made our way towards the dam, and the local villagers kindly guided us along the way. The destination itself was a tranquil oasis, almost untouched by human activity, save for a few local fishermen. The recent rain showers heightened the ambiance during our three-hour sojourn, treating us to the soothing sounds of water, birds, and wind, all beautifully captured through the lens of our cameras.
After relishing a fulfilling three hours at the dam, we embarked on our journey back home, once again embracing the thrill of off-roading through the potholes that peppered the roads.
Here are some additional things to note about Asnas Dam:
The dam is located in the Bhiwandi district of Maharashtra, about an hour's drive from Mumbai.
The dam was built in 1956 to provide water for irrigation and drinking water.
The best time to visit the dam is during the monsoon season, when the water levels are high and the scenery is lush.
There are a few small villages near the dam, but it is generally a very quiet and secluded place.
There is a small parking area at the dam, but it can get crowded on weekends.
There are no facilities at the dam, so you will need to bring your own food and water.
The dam is a popular destination for bird watching.
The dam is also a popular spot for fishing, so be sure to bring your gear if you want to try your luck.
